Both teams performed admirably, with the hockey team particularly excelling, winning all five of their games and coming away clutching winners&#39; medals. We looked in particular at the plight of the</p> <p>people of Haiti and how the hurricane has caused massive destruction to their country.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The children would like to raise money to support Haiti and we have therefore decided to hold a</p> <p>cake and biscuit bake sale on Friday 21 st October. Some of the children will be baking in school next</p> <p>week for the sale but we would be grateful for your help in also donating cakes and biscuits. It&rsquo;s good to be back and nice to get into a spring routine.</p> <p>A reminder that after school clubs with re commence after half term when the weather will hopefully get warmer.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>VIP Assemblies continue on a Friday afternoon from 2.45pm.</strong> All parents, grandparents and friends are very welcome to attend. The choir are enjoying singing in VIP assemblies. If you wish your child to have an audition with Mrs Wadeson for the choir please speak to her on either a Thursday morning or a Friday afternoon.</p> <p>I know we all enjoy hearing the children singing and the standard of music at school is excellent. Well done to all children and teachers involved.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Key Stage 2</strong> have a trip to the <strong>Great North Museum </strong>planned for <strong>Wednesday 27<sup>th</sup></strong> <strong>January 2016.</strong> This will be an exciting trip for the children as it consolidates the knowledge that the children have been learning in history and geography by using their skills to discuss and analyse real life artefacts.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>We will be welcoming <strong>four Post Graduate Students from the University of Cumbria</strong> into school at the end of the week. The students will be visiting school for four weeks and they will be supporting across school. I know that all staff, children and parents will make them very welcome.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Currently we share an <strong>After School Club with Stoneraise School</strong>, a few parents have asked for the details to be clarified.</p> <ul> <li>Bookings for the After-school club at Stoneraise must be booked with Stoneraise school directly- The after school club costs &pound;2.</li> <li>Wreay School organises the taxi to transport children from Wreay to Stoneraise.</li> <li>We use City Taxis who collect children at 3.30pm, drivers and escorts have a CRB check carried out by their company.</li> <li>The cost of the taxi (since January 2016) is shared between the children in it. The costs vary from <strong>&pound;5</strong> per trip if a number of children are in the taxi to <strong>&pound;10</strong> a trip if only two children are in the taxi.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>PE- Spring Term 2016.</u></strong></p> <p>Year 2 will have their PE sessions with Mr Blake on a Monday morning, please can Year 2 children come into school wearing their PE kits.</p> <p>Year 5 and 6 PE lessons will take place on a Tuesday afternoon with Mr Blake this term, cross country and dance and drama will be the main focus of the lessons.</p> <p>Year 3 and 4 PE will take place on a Thursday afternoon with Mr Blake at the village hall.</p> <p>Reception and Key Stage 1 PE lessons will take place on a Tuesday afternoon with Miss Ray and Mr Bone.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>PE KIT:</u></strong></p> <p>The PE Kit consists of</p> <ul> <li>A red or white polo or t-shirt (in addition to the one they are wearing that day)</li> <li>Red or black shorts.</li> </ul> <p>In the colder months, warm additional clothing must be worn. This should consist of black, red or grey jogging tops and bottoms. These are widely available at little cost compared to branded sports clothing. Trainers suitable for physical activity should also be worn. Plimsolls are not suitable for outside use, and offer little support or stability inside, so are not recommended. Please ensure that all clothes are labelled with your child&rsquo;s name as this will save you money and time replacing items.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Music Lessons.</u></strong></p> <p>Music will take place on place on the following sessions for each class:</p> <p>Reception on a Friday morning.</p> <p>Key Stage 1 on a Friday morning.</p> <p>Key Stage 2 on a Friday afternoon.</p> <p>Choir practice Friday 2.15-2.45pm.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Mrs Wadeson teaches key board lessons on a Thursday morning.</p> <p>Mr Jervis teaches guitar on a Thursday morning. (There is still a few places left in the guitar sessions)</p> <p>All of the children in Key Stage 2 are currently practising for the Easter concert.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Severe Weather:</u></strong></p> <p>&nbsp;I thought I would confirm the schools procedure if the school were to close:</p> <p>Any decision to close the school will be made as soon as possible.</p> <p>If bad weather occurs during the school day, obviously school will be able to contact you directly to collect your child.</p> <p>If however, bad weather happens overnight, we will send a text to your mobile and inform Radio Cumbria who will play the information during their morning programme.</p> <p>Please ensure that we have up to date information at all times regarding emergency contact numbers.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>School Attendance:</u></strong></p> <p>If your child is unable to attend school due to illness or any other circumstances, would you please ensure that you notify the school of the absence between the times of 8.30 am &ndash;9 am.</p> <p>In the event your child is not in school and no communication has been received, the school will telephone you to check as to the reason for the absence.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Road Safety:</u></strong></p> <p>We request that parents/guardians do not to park on the yellow zig zag lines or pavement when dropping your child (ren) off at school. (This is causing a health and safety issue for school.)</p> <p>I appreciate parking can be difficult, but the village hall car park is always available for parents to park.</p> <p>I am receiving many complaints from parents about this matter and it is causing tension amongst parents at the school gates.</p> <p>Mr Blake is waiting for a response from Cumbria Police regarding traffic issues.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Year 6 SAT preparation.</u></strong></p> <p>Year 6 children are busy with SAT prep on a Monday morning with Mrs Mapp.</p> <p>&nbsp;I would ask that parents are mindful that revision is on a Monday morning and we would appreciate a full attendance in Year 6.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Mrs Hyland-(Dyslexic Co-ordinator)</u></strong></p> <p>Mrs Hyland has a new role in school throughout the afternoons as dyslexic co-ordinator. (All staff have been trained in the teaching of pupils with dyslexia.)</p> <p>At school we use the LEXIA computer programme, spelling and memory games with the children.</p> <p>If you have any concerns that your child may be dyslexic please speak to Mrs Hyland.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Ms Griffiths (Early Help Co-ordinator)</u></strong></p> <p>Miss Griffiths has increased her role in school to include Special Educational Needs and Early Help. The Early Help system in Cumbria is for children who have additional needs either academic, personal, emotional, social, attendance, welfare or medical.
